OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 27, 2013) - Colonel Shawn Bindon assumed command of 33 Canadian Brigade Group from Colonel Howard Coombs today at a ceremony at the Cartier Square Drill Hall. The change of command parade was presided over by Brigadier-General Omer Lavoie, Commander of 4th Canadian Division.
"I offer my sincere appreciation to Colonel Coombs for his leadership and dedication in commanding the men and women of 33 Canadian Brigade Group over the last two years," said Brigadier-General Lavoie. "And I offer my congratulations to Colonel Bindon on assuming command of the Brigade, the Army Reserve in Eastern Ontario."
"I am excited to take command of such a dynamic Brigade," said Colonel Bindon. "The commitment of the Brigade's leadership and soldiers of the brigade has contributed to its success."
"Commanding 33 Canadian Brigade Group has been one of the most satisfying positions that I have had the privilege of holding during my reserve service," said Colonel Howard Coombs, outgoing commander. Colonel Coombs will now assume the position of Assistant Chief of Staff Operations at 4th Canadian Division Headquarters in Toronto.
Approximately 100 personnel representing the Brigade's 15 units were on parade.
33 Canadian Brigade Group Headquarters is located in Ottawa. The Brigade comprises 15 Army Reserve units located throughout Eastern Ontario. Reservists are members of the local communities, most of whom have full-time jobs or go to school and serve in the Canadian Armed Forces part-time.
