The Dow was up 149.47 to 15,059.07, while NASDAQ gained 46.13 to 3,449.37.

A report from the Commerce Department showed construction spending increased 0.5% in May.
The Bank of Japan's quarterly ``tankan'' survey for June showed that the index for major manufacturers rose to positive 4 points from negative 8 in March. It was the first positive figure since September 2011.
The price of gold rose US$11.85 to US$1,246.05 an ounce, while silver eased US$0.01 to US$19.69 an ounce.
