Mid-morning report: stocks climb

The Dow was up 149.47 to 15,059.07, while NASDAQ gained 46.13 to 3,449.37.

U.S. stocks rose, as reports showed manufacturing grew faster than forecast in June and construction spending increased.
A report from the Commerce Department showed construction spending increased 0.5% in May.

The Bank of Japan's quarterly ``tankan'' survey for June showed that the index for major manufacturers rose to positive 4 points from negative 8 in March. It was the first positive figure since September 2011.

The price of gold rose US$11.85 to US$1,246.05 an ounce, while silver eased US$0.01 to US$19.69 an ounce.
