North American stocks were mixed in early trading Wednesday following earnings reports and ahead of a vote to raise the U.S. debt ceiling.
The TSX slipped 22 points to 12,802, while the Venture exchange added two points at 1,242.
Stock movers on Bay Street included shares of IAMGOLD (TSX: T.IMG, Stock Forum), which sank 9% to $9.80 after BMO downgraded the stock to “market perform” from “outperform” following 2012 gold production results that were below the company’s guidance.
The Dow moved 54 points higher to 13,766, and the Nasdaq advanced 10 points to 3,153.
Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) gave tech stocks a lift on Wall Street as shares of the search giant jumped more than 5% to $741.46 after the company’s latest earnings results beat the Wall Street consensus estimate.
The price of gold eased $1 to US$1692, while silver prices gained 14 cents to $32.32.
