New York based fund manager Jana Partners issued a statement Monday proposing to install five new directors to Agrium’s (TSX: T.AGU, Stock Forum) board, this according to a company news release.

Jana's nominees include Lyle Vanclief, who was Canada's agriculture minister from 1997 to 2003, as well as its managing partner Barry Rosenstein.

Jana, which was already Agrium's largest shareholder, also disclosed that its stake has risen to more than 6% of Agrium's shares.
