The Toronto stock market fell 11.29 points to 12,582.67 on Friday amid a disappointing reading on U.S. job creation last month. The Dow lost 56.21 to 15,570.88, while NASDAQ slipped 8.21 to 3,667.54.

The U.S. Labour Department reported that the economy created 162,000 jobs during July, less than the 183,000 that markets had expected. However, the jobless rate ticked down to 7.4% from 7.6%.

The price of gold lost US$0.61 to US$1,309.75 an ounce, while silver rose US$0.23 to US$19.90 and ounce.
