How do I activate my account?

If you did not receive your activation email, please attempt to login with the username and password you registered with. You will be prompted to re-enter your username and password. Pressing the "Resend my membership verification" button will resend the activation message to the email address you used when you registered.

How do I create a group?

Creating a new group on Stockhouse is easy! Login to your account and select My Groups from the drop down menu under the Boards & Blogs tab (or go to My Stockhouse, My Groups) and follow these steps:

  • Click the Create a New Group button
  • Enter a group name and group description
  • Upload a group picture by clicking to choose an image and browsing your computer for the image you wish to select
  • Designate the group as either public or private
  • Choose the sector(s) that applies to the group, including as many sub-sector tags that apply
  • You must now create the first post under this new group

Important: Each group has its own unique portfolio, which includes access to a portfolio manager tool linked to your group ID. This group portfolio is independent of your personal Stockhouse portfolio. Simply click on the Portfolio button located to the right of your screen and follow the steps to add symbols to the portfolio. Remember that anyone in your group can add or remove symbols.

How do I create a blog?

Creating your first blog is simple and fast on Stockhouse. Begin by logging into your account, clicking on My Stockhouse, selecting My Content from the menu on the left side of the screen and clicking on My Blog. You can then begin composing your blog.

In addition to entering a title and description of your blog, you are required to choose whether to allow comments on the post from other Stockhouse members, as well as checking the term and conditions box.

Once you have completed the draft blog, you can select from the following options located at the bottom of the screen: Save As Draft | Preview | Publish | Cancel.

Other key features:

  • Your member profile contained in My Stockhouse, My Profile will automatically be linked to your blog. Anyone reading your blog will be able to see your member name, picture and rating, as well as having the option to click to view your public profile.
  • A standard editing toolbar is provided to allow you to format the blog as you wish.
  • You can tag stock symbols to your blog by entering the symbol in the box below the subject line. You then have the option of making a recommendation for this stock by selecting from the recommendation pull-down menu (options include Strong Buy | Buy | Hold | Sell). Click the add button when you are finished and then start the process again if you wish to add more symbols up to a maximum of ten.
  • You can add keyword tags to your post in the form of a comma separated list in the field below the stock symbols you've added (if applicable).
  • Enter the anti-spam characters into the applicable box before saving the blog as a draft or publishing it to Blogs.
  • You also can add a chart or video to your blog.

Remember: A draft blog will not be posted to the Stockhouse community; you must publish it first. Once your blog is published, we strongly recommend that you create the first rating. This helps to establish your Overall Quality score on Stockhouse, as well as impacting your Reputation score.

Where do I find my member forum(s) on Stockhouse?

All member forums (non-symbol boards) are located under the Groups tab at the top of your screen and members of these groups include anyone who has contributed content to that group in the past. These groups are either public or private depending on how the owner sets up the group and the posts that fall under these groups form the basis of group discussions.

Remember: All groups you participate in are also displayed automatically in My Stockhouse, My Groups, Groups I Belong To.

What is a group portfolio?

Every group on Stockhouse now has a unique portfolio of stocks that group members are following. It is important to note that a group portfolio is independent of your personal Stockhouse portfolio. Only members of a group have the ability to add or remove stocks from a group portfolio according to the focus and goals of the group. Also, you must be a member of the group (either public or private) to view its portfolio.

How do I add a Stockhouse member to My Favorites?

You can add a Stockhouse member to your Favorites by selecting the Add to favorites option from the pull-down menu below their picture. This can also be done from their public My Stockhouse profile page by selecting the Track Me in your Favorites button.

How do I use the rating system?

Using the rating system is easy! Make sure you are logged into your account. After reading an article, blog or comment, place your cursor over each rating category in the quality quadrant to rate the content for Clarity, Credibility and Usefulness. These ratings use a five star system and will provide the content with an Overall Quality score.

How is my Reputation score calculated?

Your Reputation score is a combination of the following:

  • How other members rate the quality of content you create on Stockhouse (via message boards, blogs and contributed articles)
  • The performance of your Public Portfolio. (Click here to learn how to set-up your Public Portfolio.) Anchor to Public Portfolio section
  • Your participation in the community, rating other members

Your Reputation score, which is on a scale of 1-10, helps the community to find high-quality content and filter out spam.

How do I create a Portfolio?

Your Stockhouse portfolio is a powerful investment tracking tool. You can create your Portfolio by following these steps:

  • Ensure you are logged into Stockhouse and from the drop down menu under the My Portfolio tab select Create New Portfolio
  • Fill in the appropriate information to personalize your portfolio and click Save Portfolio
  • Enter the assets you would like to track or use the symbol lookup tool to find the appropriate symbols. Click Add to Portfolio
  • Enter the number of shares you would like to include and the price you would like the portfolio to register. Click Save and repeat this process for each symbol

How do I create my Public Portfolio?

You can add any stock from your main Portfolio to your Public Portfolio by following these steps:

  • Ensure you are logged in to your Stockhouse account and click on the My Portfolio tab
  • Make any stock in your Portfolio public by clicking the check box left of the symbol
  • Choose at least 5 stocks to make public
  • Click Save Public Symbols on the bottom left of your Portfolio
  • Repeat this process at anytime to add or delete stocks

Your Public Portfolio has been set-up and can now be viewed by you and other members on your My Stockhouse page.

Your Performance rating is calculated based on the performance of your Public Portfolio. Your Performance rating contributes to your overall Stockhouse reputation. (Click here to learn how your Reputation score is calculated.)

How do I add content or other Stockhouse members to my favorites?

Whether it's a favorite Stockhouse community member, Bullboard, blog or news article, you have the opportunity to add this content or member to your favorites. First make sure you are logged into your account and then simply click the add to favorites button located at the bottom of the screen you are viewing. You can add a Stockhouse member to your Favorites by selecting the Add to favorites option from the pull-down menu below their picture. This can also be done from their public My Stockhouse profile page by selecting the Track Me in your Favorites button.

Then whenever you login to your account, click on My Stockhouse, My Favorites and select from the tabs along the top of the My Favorites home page to view the most up-to-date information.

What are the Bullboards?

The Bullboards is a popular, syndicated financial message forum. It offers you a platform for interacting with the Stockhouse investor community; adding another valuable dimension to your research on the public companies you follow. Bullboards gives you access to the insights and opinions of over 30,000 individual boards, as well as the ability to rate the posts of others for clarity, credibility and useful. You can also filter the content you view by the Overall Quality score of members who contribute content to help you elevate high value content providers with the click of a button.

How do I invite Stockhouse members to become friends?

Ensure you are logged into your account, click on My Stockhouse, select My Friends and click on the Invite tab. You will now see the following three options: Import Contacts | Add Emails Manually | Stockhouse Users. Select the Stockhouse Users option and follow these steps:

  • Enter in the user ids for the members you wish to invite up to a maximum of 20 users at one time
  • Click the Send Invites button
  • Your invitations will be sent to the My Messages page of each user you have invited
  • You will then be provided with delivery confirmation for your reference

Note: The email address that will be displayed in the From field is automatically generated based on the email address in your profile and cannot be changed.

How do I invite other people to become friends on Stockhouse?

Inviting people who are not part of the Stockhouse community is easy. Ensure you are logged into your account, click on My Stockhouse, select My Friends and click on the Invite tab. You will now see the following three options: Import Contacts | Add Emails Manually | Stockhouse Users. Select either the Import Contacts or Add Emails Manually option and follow these steps:

Import Contacts

  • Enter the email address and password associated with your contact list in the space provided and click import emails
  • Once the contacts have been downloaded, select your email recipients up to a maximum of 20 contacts
  • Enter a subject in the space provided
  • Include a personalized message
  • Click the Send Invites button
  • You now have the option of selecting another 20 contacts
  • You will then be provided with delivery confirmation for your reference

Note: Stockhouse supports the following email service providers - AOL, BlackPlanet, Facebook, FastMail.FM, Freenet.de, Friendster, Gmail, GMX, Hi5, Hotmail, Hotmail Live, IcqMail, Indiatimes, LinkedIn, Lycos, .Mac, Mail.com, Mail.ru, MSN, MyNet.com, MySpace, Orkut, Rediffmail, Web.de, Xing, Yahoo mail.

Add Emails Manually

  • Click on Add Emails Manually
  • Enter an email address
  • Click Add and repeat this step up to a maximum of 20 contacts
  • Enter a subject in the space provided
  • Include a personalized message
  • Click the Send Invites button
  • You now have the option of selecting another 20 contacts
  • You will then be provided with delivery confirmation for your reference
How do I use the Search function?

With our intelligent search function you can find information on the company or sector you want quickly and easily. This search is not limited to a company name or ticker symbol; enter any search term from any page on Stockhouse and get results from News, Company Snapshot, Bullboards, Blogs, public groups and even other members.

What is the easiest way of finding information on a specific stock?

The easiest way to find information on a stock you are following is to use the Search function located under the main menu at the top of your screen. You can enter a company name or ticker symbol after which you will be provided with a Company Snapshot that includes a range of information on this company, such as a stock quote and related chart and the Bullboard for the company, among other key information.

Be sure to enter the exchange prefix to narrow your search as follows:

T - Toronto Stock Exchange

V - TSX Venture Exchange

For instance: T.NT will find the Company Snapshot for Nortel Networks Corp trading on the TSX.

Important: There is no prefix used for companies listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ, AMEX, OTC:BB and Pink Sheet
