I tried loading a BNN news clip to see if they've made any progress (no response to my emails). Up popped a window telling me that I most likely have Norton Firewall (I do) and that I must disable it and likely reboot my computer before loading the clip again.

I'll pass on that suggestion; a few more weeks and maybethe BNN geeks may get it all figured out.

The last thing I would do is to disable Norton's Firewall while on the internet...You could check your settings to ensure their site is not somehow being blocked and ensure Flash and Windows Media Player are able to have full internet access.

Nebc - no intention of turning off firewall! I've reinstalled all player & flash software & tinkered with the firewall settings to no avail. Frankly I've wasted too much time on it. All other video feeds work so the problem likely lies with the BNN programmers.

There are a few guests and sometimes a bit of news I listen to in the background (I never actually "watch" the feed - I would be happy to just receive the audio portion) Oh well, these days more jazz (over the net) and less news is probably better for my state of mind anyways.

    They responded to me.

They said my internet connection was likely too slow. What do you think?

Having acted as the "user" interface with the IT support group for many years, they seem to enjoy being able to say "we can do that, no problem". However, they are generally short on testing in the "typical user environment" and only care if they can get it working in "THEIR" environment. I was lucky enough to have final say over whether or not a change could be implemented. I would not allow a change to go forward until it was tested on ALL equipment and software that was used in the firm. This forced the IT group to ensure that everyone received updated equipment and software on a timely basis.

CNN does not have that luxury. However, they should be ensuring that their "improvements" work on the lowest common equipment base and not only on the most up-to-date. What good is it switching to Vista and Windows Media Player 11 when the user base is still on XP and WMP9? To then tell user that they are the one's that are out of step is the heights of arrogance - but then that it the CTV and BellGlobeMedia Way!!!

I have used TSN broadband (To watch America's Cup Yachting) and it worked perfectly on my machine and connection. But BNN which is part of the same CTV broadband system, does not work properly - very slow to load and then video is very jerky and unstable.

I suspect it has to do with the advertising that displays simultaneously, but who knows?

I can watch broadband from other sources with no problem.

I don't know if BNN/CTV are trying to fix this problem or just assuming we will all rush out and buy new computers because we just can't be without their scintillating videos

LOL... they at BNN are just making excuses for their own screw-up.

When I look at the "Content Blocking" entries in the NIS Log Viewer (Statistics), the entries related to the BNN Videos all indicate that the path includes "ads" or "ads." as part of the string and this gets interpreted as the start of an ad which needs to be blocked. Turning off ad-blocking has no effect as there are other inclusions that cause problems.

I really do not think that the Techies that work on the BNN site know what they are doing. The fix the problems so that the videos work on BNN equipment BUT they are NOT the REAL USERS.

My note to the boss, Fleischman, got a response that he was away until Sept. 3. How timely and opportune!

I am having no problem with the new BNN video. I used to have a terrible time with the old one but I have a new laptop with dual processors.

The best part is that videos do not include the ads so I can watch Marketcall Tonight in about 15 minutes.

I use PC tools spyware if that is of any use.

I do not expect that it is a problem for people that have new equipment with Vista or XP and WMP 11. The problems are arising for those of us that have not upgraded in the past few years, i.e., those on Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows 2000. These systems cannot install WMP 11 only 9 or 10 and these seem to be at odds with BNN.
