15. What will the benefits be to society in general and to the local communities?
Job creation and Skills development (construction and operational) : The construction phase is expected to extend over a period of 12 months and create approximately 60 employment opportunities during peak construction. The work associated with the construction phase will be undertaken by contractors and will include the establishment of the plant and the associated components. During the Operational phase, Rareco, with the proposed processing plant, will create ~ 150 permanent employment opportunities.
Local economy: Some minor local economic benefits may be realised through the purchase and/or contract of local goods and services associated with the construction industry which could strengthen the local economy for a limited period.
Tourism: The proposed development will be the Rare Earth Separation Plant, the first of its kind in Africa.
