'What does it mean that the game is rigged'?  Only that it's hard to know what's really going on when prices are moving - on an individual equity, or in an entire sector or market, particularly gold, for which some very big players have a strong incentive to try and manage prices and perceptions.  And yes, I agree, it's always been that way, sometimes to greater extent, sometimes lesser.  I think that maybe now is a period of 'greater' due to the really shakey nature of the global financial situation, the untenable and unresolvable debt, and the protracted game of extend-and-pretend that everybody's involved in wrt sovereign debt.
