Just speculation, but I would not be at all surprised to find that Mr. Nunns is staying on pending the search for a new CEO. Note that so far there have been no hires to replace the departed team, just interim steps, it makes total sense that a new CEO would want his/her own team in those key positions. Mr. Nunns may be a talented geologist, but it hasn't been demonstrated in corporate governance or performance.

My suggestion, just from the bleachers, acquire Pinecrest along with their team of ex-Cresent Pointers. Their skills fit perfectly with the light oil, horizontal fracs with waterflood reservoir management. And the Pinecrest lands fill out Penn West dominence in one of the most exciting plays in Canada. I'd release another "resource" play to make the deal.

Just a morning muse.
