19:57 Minister Pulgar Vidal invokes regional governments to exert more control over mining
Lima, Feb. 04 (ANDINA). The Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar Vidal, today called on the country's regional governments to put more control in mining functions that are responsible, through the regional mine.

Pulgar Vidal stressed that the creation of the Regional Environmental Authority (ARA) in Ucayali, and the soon to be created in Amazonas, is an important step in the development of institutional capacities in regional governments.

He further argued that requires authorities, both national and regional, to face a number of challenges such as illegal mining is so destructive to the Amazon.

"We can not allow too Amazonian regions like Puno, are in the process of formalization of mining 10 000 Statements of Commitment, without whom it is required to submit one additional requirements, and nobody has Corrective Environmental Management Instrument (IGAC) or title to operate, and in turn has no property, "he said.

  He confirmed that there is no more destructive activity that illegal mining, which hinders the development of the country, in addition to causing serious harm to the ecosystem and forests.

"Therefore being a major responsibility of regional governments must curb the regional directorates of mining," he said.

The Minister attended the signing ceremony of the regional ordinance creating the Ucayali Regional Environmental Authority, a body that will manage more efficiently forest resources and wildlife that are natural forests.
