I am not sure if you are talking about some recent find in the Bakken or just that play in general. The last word I heard on that play is it will produce 1-1.5 million barrels per day. The US is in deficit by somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 million barrels per day already counting half the Bakken production. They are nowhere near able to be a net oil exporter. This oil independence math is calculated by the same mathematical theory that they use to balance the budget. In case you are not familiar with advanced calculus for use in economic theory it goes like this: " If you repeat the lie often enough you can make people believe you".
Because WTI is $20 less than Brent, some of the US refineries are exporting their products at a considerable profit. So there is some truth to the largest oil exporter story but not much.
