There is a need to be concerned that the Government will accept Air Canada's request to delay the pension contributions. For the first time really, the other airlines are claiming that approving the AC request will put them at a competitive disadvantage as the Government wil be subsidizing AC to better compete. Further, their position is that if AC can start up the low cost carrier and buy new aircraft, they can afford to prop up the pensions. The Government is in a difficult position. AC will probably get the Government to agree but the time frame may be reduced. I have no idea about the impact on AC going forward, but the Government probably cannot be seen to give AC everything they want. Anybody have any views on this? My feeling is that if AC plans are based on full approval, half a loaf could cause a sell off. Just my thoughts!
