BBC News said the oil production platform is owned by Black Elk Energy and is located about 40 kilometres south-east of Grand Isle.

Several media outlets are reporting that an oil rig on the Gulf of Mexico caught fire after an explosion on Friday, leaving at least two workers missing, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Four people are in hospital in critical condition, a spokeswoman said, according to a BBC report
