THE ABITIBI GREENSTONE BELT (AGB)

The Abitibi Greenstone Belt is unique amongst the greenstone belts of the Canadian Shield in that it has a high ratio of supracrustal to intrusive rocks. It has a generally low metamorphic grade and is known to have a diverse spectrum of richly mineralized deposits. The belt is found in both provinces of Ontario and Quebec with approximately 33% in Ontario and 67% in Quebec. The Belt has produced in excess of 180,000,000 ounces of gold and more than 450,000,000 tons of Cu-Zn ore to date.
