The market generally prices in information before the average investor knows. At times we do get surprises but often what is referred to as "The collective Consciousness" knows far more and factors in the future into a stock price or a market. Then of course there are the insiders and their buddies who are covertly doing their thing to influence a stock price. This is why chart analysis often will lead the way to the direction of markets and individual stocks. Experience goes a long way in interpriting charts and watching for Break Out Patterns is a great way to make eze money in the market.
