An outline of the general techniques I use to make money. This includes the use of conservative margin for purchasing dividend stocks, junior miners with compelling geology, options trading (specifically the VIX during uncertain times but also basic covered calls for income), and even some basic merger arbitrage. I try to respond to all serious comments/inquiries/questions. Feel free to 'drop me a line'.

  • Iran-India...oil for gold.

"According to a new and yet unconfirmed report, India bought oil from Iran using gold. India certainly has the gold resources to fund the oil, while Iran is under pressure by the West, due the continuation of its nuclear program."   (more of the article here... http://www.forexcrunch.com/gold-for-oil-india-and-iran-ditch-dollar-report/)   Thought people would be interested...

  • Is the time right for this gold junior?

Readers of this blog may remember that I last talked about Gold Bullion Development Corp. (GBB) in my '2010 end of the year post' (http://www.stockhouse.com/Blogs/ViewDetailedPost.aspx?p=111504). In short, the geology of their land package is compelling enough that I have built up a full position in this stock even though their execution has left much to be desired. However, with...

[UPDATE 4]: Mea culpa. It was nothing but a financing... sorry for the fuss. Note that the financing was done below the current market value which killed the stock in the short term... but when many juniors will be looking around for ever scarce money... these guys will be cashed up for some time.[UPDATE 3]: Phoned the company and confirmed what 911trade said... there is another news release...

  • Weekend Musings for September 25 2011

So the seasons are changing and September is almost over. Those who actually read this blog will notice that my posts have been sporadic at best lately. This is mostly due to seasonal migrations to warmer waters for myself and my cephalopod brethern. I was even contemplating retiring this blog altogether... but of course the markets have been so interesting lately that this would have been...

  • There's still lots of time.

The markets, if viewed through the eyes of popular media (CNBC, Bloomberg and so on), are looking a little scary out there. The VIX closed above 40 yesterday and it looks as if people are going (running? rushing?) into the risk off trade.Given that mining juniors are certainly out there on the risk curve, these big upward VIX moves appear to cause their stock prices to over-react.If you've been...

  • Back to work so to speak.

Hello again.I can now say that it is possible to take a break from the SH and the markets in general... and not suffer from withdrawal! Anyhow... I will be starting to blog periodically again. In the mean time, I noticed that Pelangio (V.PX) announced some new drill results and a new gold zone on their Manfo property. You can find out more info here...http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...
