TORONTO (SHfn) - Positive drug data sent a pharmaceutical stock soaring Friday, while a textile play popped on a takeover offer.
Vivus (NASDAQ: VVUS, Stock Forum) shares soared 26% to $7.20 on Friday after the pharmaceutical firm reported positive interim data from a mid-stage trial of its experimental diabetic drug Qnexa.
As well, shares of Angelica (NYSE: AGL, Stock Forum) shot up 29% to $21.25 as the operator of textile rental and linen management services for the U.S. health care market said it will sell itself to a Lehman Brothers affiliate for $22 a share in cash.
ABC Funding (OTC:BB: AFDG, Stock Forum), meanwhile, announced a deal to acquire all of the outstanding capital stock of Voyager Gas for $42 million. The Voyager assets consist of about 14,300 net contiguous acres in Duval County, Texas, which had independently engineered net proved reserves of 16.2 Bcfe. ABC Funding stock popped 44% to 75 cents.
And, shares of Competitive Games International (OTO: CGMI, Stock Forum) skyrocketed 159% to seven cents after the interactive media firm said it has entered into partnership with International GlobalXChange for the purposes of processing and distributing payout funds and commissions to game winners and affiliates.
