A buyout bid boosted a communication network play Monday, while a biotech stock popped on a FDA designation.

TORONTO (SHfn) - A buyout bid boosted a communication network play Monday, while a biotech stock popped on a FDA designation.

Radyne (NASDAQ: RADN, Bullboard) shares soared 43% to $11.10 on Monday after Comtech (NASDAQ: CMT, Bullboard)L said it will buy the maker of communication network systems for $11.50 a share in cash.

As well, shares of Pipex Pharmaceuticals (AMEX: PP, Bullboard) shot up 22% to $1.17 as the company announced that it has received an Orphan Drug designation for oral tetrathiomolybdate from the FDA for the treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a deadly pulmonary disease with no FDA-approved therapy.

Shoe maker Collective Brands (NYSE: PSS, Bullboard), meanwhile, provided first-quarter guidance that exceeded Wall Street expectations following an unfavorable verdict in a lawsuit with Adidas. Collective Brands stock popped 17% to $11.82.

And, ICO Global Communications (NASDAQ: ICOG, Bullboard) Monday announced that it has filed its final milestone certification with the Federal Communications Commission confirming that its satellite system is operational. Its shares jumped 17% to $3.71.
