On Monday, shares of Patheon (TSX: T.PTI, Stock Forum) skyrocketed 105% to $2.19 as the provider of drug development and manufacturing services to the international pharmaceutical industry said it received a letter from JLL Patheon Holdings, LLC after the close of business on December 5, 2008, expressing its intention to make an unsolicited offer to acquire any or all the outstanding restricted voting shares of Patheon that it does not already own at a price of US$2 per share in cash, which is equivalent to CDN$2.54 per share based on the exchange rate on December 5, 2008.
StonePoint Global Brands (TSX: V.SPG, Stock Forum), meanwhile, announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sterling and Oxford, has launched its upgraded in-room merchandising system for the hospitality industry. The company also said it has received its first order from the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Current sales plans aim to expand program installations into approximately 13,500 rooms by the end of 2009. StonePoint stock popped 64% to 23 cents.
In Tuesday trading, Cardero Resource (TSX: T.CDU, Stock Forum) shares jumped 18% to $1.37 after the miner provided a metallurgical update on the Pampa El Toro iron sands project in the Peru, in which the company is currently undertaking a pilot-scale pig iron production program using Pampa El Toro iron ore concentrate produced from Cardero's pilot plant.
As well, shares of ProMetic Life Sciences (TSX: T.PLI, Stock Forum) shot up 30% to 13 cents as the biopharmaceutical firm said its U.K.-based subsidiary, ProMetic BioSciences Ltd., has signed a long-term supply agreement with a European biopharmaceutical company estimated to be worth up to $35 million over the next six years, with first shipment delivery starting this quarter.
Wednesday’s market action saw shares Pinnacle Mines (TSX: V.PNL, Stock Forum) power 83% higher to 5.5 cents after the micro cap miner reported drill results from its 88 diamond drill hole program, carried out between June and November, 2008, on its Silver Coin gold prospect near Stewart, British Columbia, which included 54.87 meters grading 4.45 grams of per tonne (g/t) gold.
Also, shares of Starfield Resources (TSX: T.SRU, Stock Forum) climbed 27% to 14 cents after the junior miner reported the discovery of a diamond in a till sample taken from an area located near the center of the company's claim block in Nunavut.
On Thursday, Rubicon Minerals (TSX: T.RMX, Stock Forum) shares surged 19% to $1.14 after the miner reported results of step-out drilling from barge and land based drilling at its 100%-controlled Phoenix Gold Project located in the heart of the Red Lake gold district of Ontario, which included 3151.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 0.5 metres.
In addition, shares of Chalk Media (TSX: V.CKM, Stock Forum) skyrocketed 189% to 13 cents as the multimedia content provider said it has entered into an arrangement agreement for Research In Motion (TSX: T.RIM, Stock Forum) to acquire Chalk in an all-cash transaction at a price per share of 14.2 cents, or $23.125 million.
And, in Friday trading,Victoria Gold (TSX: V.VIT, Stock Forum) shares shot up 13% to 22.5 cents after the micro cap miner reported the latest assay results from drill hole NW-13a at its Helen Zone discovery in Nevada, which included 29.6 metres of 16.75 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.
Finally, shares of Solex Resources (TSX: V.SOX, Stock Forum) jumped 29% to 4.5 cents as the junior explorer announced the final results of the 2008 drilling program completed on the Puncopata Prospect at the Macusani East uranium project in Peru, which included eight metres of 0.216% U3O8.
