EL ORO, Mexico – I am on my way back from Candente Gold’s EL Oro project, some 90 kilometers northwest of Mexico City.
A rig is drilling on the property. Just started. (Please see photo taken this week.) Candente Gold’s (TSX: T.CDG, Stock Forum) El Oro appears to be (and I usually hesitate to use adjectives) a formidable district of gold and silver in a setting of low-suphidation, epithermal style quartz veins.
The site of fresh drilling comes in an area of Mexico – EL Oro -- that ranks with Guanajuato, Fresnillo and other massively productive silver and gold districts.
“We are making a case that El Oro, since 1899, all you see is exploitation of a single stripe of mineralization. One band, a horizontal band,” says longtime Mexico-oriented geologist Peter Megaw. “That (San Rafael vein) produced five million ounces of gold (gold equivalent, which includes a lot of silver). Now we have the ability to see deeper into existing veins, 20, maybe 30 veins that merit further investigation.”
Mr. Megaw is a director of Candente Gold. The University of Arizona doctorate in geology is better known in Mexico as a founder of Mag Silver and one of the principal drivers of 50 million ounces worth of silver discoveries, including Excellon’s Platosa and Mag Silver’s Fresnillo.
Candente Gold’s drilling at El Oro in this town of about 10,000 people just started. The folks in town are curious to see rigs and excavators, fresh trenches
and Canadian prospectors all over the place.
And some familiar faces. Mark Pryor worked here seven years ago when Placer Dome ran the show. Now he is Candente’s chief of exploration.
This article is just an introduction to Joanne Freeze’s Candente Gold, which only started trading in January 2010. Candente Gold holds sway over about 15,000 hectares in EL Oro District. This includes just about everything there, including the San Rafael and Veta Verde Veins.
The genesis of Ms. Freeze’s Peru and Mexico-leaning gold and silver company came from her purchase of a portfolio of exploration properties held by mother ship Candente Resource Corp., which is now Candente Copper (TSX: T.DNT, Stock Forum), and Andy Smith’s Canaco Resources (TSX: V.CAN, Stock Forum).
Both Candente companies are Planetary Prospects of Ticker Trax, and as such we here at home own the shares. We will have more on our tour of the property next week for Ticker Trax subscribers.
- Joanne Freeze’s Candente Gold was the subject of an early April 2010 Ticker Trax report about its Peru concessions.
- Speaking of fresh drilling, a Ghana company, our Ticker Trax™ Planetary Prospect Xtra-Gold Resources (OTC:BB: XTGR, Stock Forum), is preparing a 5,000-meter drill program, its next phase of drilling, on a concession at the 5.5-kilometer-long Kibi Gold Trend. (We at Ticker Trax are on record as having visited the Kibi twice in eight months as we research U.S. over-the-counter-listed Xtra-Gold. (Please see: Structural geologist seeks large gold zone at Xtra’s Kibi.) We here at home own the shares.
Please visit our Ticker Trax Library for subscriber research regarding Ghana, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and South Africa. As with all Ticker Trax Planetary Prospects, we here at home own shares of Xtra-Gold Resources and Candente Gold.)
- I will be chatting at the Las Vegas Money show on Tuesday May 11. The subject is “Safe Six: Natural resources, life sciences and safety in commodities.” The 30-minute presentation is at noon. After that, I return to Colombia on behalf of a fresh Ticker Trax Planetary Prospect whose activities I will be viewing for a second time.
